Effects of New Education Policy 2022

New Education Policy:

The New Education Policy was launched by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) in the year 2020, under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi. The objective behind the New Education Policy was to replace the 34-year-old NEP (National Education Policy).

The New Education Policy will focus more on skill-based learning and will provide quality education to all the Children, regardless of their socio-economic background. The New Education Policy has introduced a new 5+3+3+4 structure which will replace the old 10+2 system.

Effects of New Education Policy 2022 on University Students:

The New Education Policy will make University level education more flexible. There will be multiple entry and exit options for students and learning will be more focused on skill development.

For University Students the Undergraduate degree will be of 4 years and with NEP multiple exit options in Undergraduate program will be introduced for students. If any students want to leave the course after completion of 1 Year in a vocational or professional field a certificate of completion will be given to them and the certificate will state that the student has completed one year of the Certificate programme.

For the students who will leave the course after 2 years a Diploma will be given to them which will state that the student has completed the 2 years of Diploma Programme. A Bachelor's degree will be awarded to students who will complete 3 years of degree programme. The students who will complete a 4 years undergraduate program will be given a degree in research within the area of study.

The Post graduation degree will be of 1 or 2 years and the M.Phil programmes will be discontinued and students will be able to pursue Phd. degrees directly. An academic bank of credit will also be established for students to monitor their overall performance. According to NEP, every college has to get affiliated with a University or should become an autonomous degree granting institution. This will be a huge step as students will be able to get their degrees on time.

Under the New Education Policy (NEP) a new regulatory body will be set-up by the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI). This regulatory body will monitor everything and will help students to communicate better with the authorities and things will be less confusing for students.

OVERALL IMPACT OF NEW EDUCATION POLICY ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS:

The New Education Policy will bring a more flexible curriculum for University level students with multiple entry and exit options. With NEP the students will be able to give more priority to inherent talent, knowledge, skill and aptitude of students, rather than focusing only on degrees.

The New Education Policy will give enough freedom to students to decide on their options depending upon their aptitude and their personal preference.
